Comprehensive Autism Diagnoses

If your young child has displayed symptoms of autism or a doctor has expressed concerns, Blossom provides comprehensive autism diagnostic evaluations for children between the ages of 0-3. Under the direction of Dr. Gia Koehne, Clinical Psychologist, the Blossom Evaluation Team is here to support you through every step of the autism journey and will help you navigate through the evaluation process.

Why choose an autism evaluation at Blossom Center for Children?

Individualized with a personal touch

We aim to provide a very personalized, supportive process where we seek to get to know and understand your child’s unique personality and needs. At your initial call, you will be assigned a member of the team that will walk you through every step of the process and make sure you are never wondering what is next. This person is available to you to answer any questions or provide support at any time during the assessment process.

Quick Results

Due to the small scale of our program, we are able to complete the entire evaluation process FAST – sometimes as quickly as two weeks. We understand that waiting any longer to know the results of an assessment just adds to an already stressful time, and we work to expedite the process as much as possible.

We also schedule ADOS appointments (the final step in the process) in the morning to allow us to provide you with same day results. Once the full evaluation process is complete, a full medical report, including individualized recommendations, is provided to the family in approximately 2 business days.

Full Medical Diagnosis

Due to Dr. Gia’s credentialing and extensive experience in the diagnosing of autism, Blossom is able to provide a comprehensive medical diagnosis for autism (if appropriate based on evaluation results). This means there is no waiting for results to be transferred to another provider to review the material and make a diagnostic determination. The report can immediately be used to access a variety of important services and meets all requirements of funding sources.

Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation

We provide a battery of assessments (individualized to the age and needs of your child) including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (most commonly known as the ADOS-2) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS-2). The extensive testing allows us to provide results and a diagnostic determination with full confidence.

Questions & Answers

FAQs

The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured, standardized assessment instrument that includes many play-based activities designed to obtain information in the areas of communication, reciprocal social interactions, and restricted and repetitive behaviors associated with a diagnosis of ASD.

Dr. Gia has worked in autism diagnostics for over 20 years and has helped countless families navigate this journey.

Most insurances cover the assessment process and out of pocket amounts vary by individual plan. Our Billing Specialist is ready to help you navigate your insurance so you know exactly what autism testing will cost for your child.

Blossom is currently in network with the following funding sources:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • United Healthcare
  • Humana
  • Community First (UHS Employees plans/commercial plans)
    • *not Medicaid
  • Tricare
  • Beacon
  • Magellan

If Dr. Gia determines that your child does not qualify for an autism diagnosis, we will provide recommendations for next steps and referrals to our always-growing network of providers to help you access the support or care your child needs.

At this time, Blossom is only testing for autism spectrum disorder. If there are concerns about other diagnoses in addition to autism, we can likely still evaluate for autism and connect you with next steps to explore other types of evaluations as well. If you are unsure, give us a call and we can help determine the best way to help your family.

At this time, we are able to evaluate children up to about the age of 3. If your child is around this cutoff or just beyond, give us a call to see if we are still able to assist you or connect you with someone who can.
